ในเรื่องของสุขภาพช่องปากและฟันของเด็ก ถือว่าเป็นเรื่องที่ผู้ปกครองแม่ควรเอาใจใส่ให้มากเป็นพิเศษ เพราะฟันน้ำนมของเด็กนั้น มีความสำคัญมาก เนื่องจากฟันน้ำนมคือเครื่องมือการรักษาช่องว่างตามธรรมชาติในขากรรไกร เพื่อกันพื้นที่ให้ฟันแท้ขึ้นมาได้ พ่อแม่ผู้ปกครองส่วนใหญ่คิดว่าฟันน้ำนมไม่มีความสำคัญ หากเด็กต้องสูญเสียฟันน้ำนมหรือถอนออกก็คงไม่เป็นไร แต่ความจริงแล้ว หากต้องเสียฟันน้ำนมก่อนวัยอันควรเช่น ถ้าพ่อแม่พาบุตรหลานไปถอนฟันน้ำนมทิ้ง ก็อาจจะทำให้ฟันซี่อื่นๆ เคลื่อนตัวเข้ามาในช่องว่างระหว่างฟัน ทำให้ฟันแท้ที่ขึ้นมาอาจจะขาดพื้นที่และไม่สามารถงอกขึ้นมาได้ตามธรรมชาติ ซึ่งนี่อาจจะเป็นหนึ่งสาเหตุที่ทำให้เกิดความผิดปกติของขากรรไกรและการสบฟันของเด็กได้

ดังนั้น เด็กอาจจะต้องระมัดระวังในเรื่องของการเล่นกีฬาหรือการร่วมกิจกรรม เพราะอาจจะทำให้เกิดอันตรายได้ เนื่องจากมีเครื่องมือการจัดฟันอยู่ภายในช่องปาก ข้อเสียอีกอย่างหนึ่งก็คือในขณะที่เด็กมีเครื่องมือจัดฟันอยู่ภายในช่องปาก ก็อาจจะทำให้ทำความสะอาดฟันได้ยากและเสี่ยงต่อการเกิดฟันผุได้ถ้าไม่ดูแลรักษาความสะอาดให้ดี และในขณะรับประทานอาหาร เศษอาหารอาจจะเข้าไปติดที่เหล็กจัดฟันได้ อาจจะทำให้เสียบุคลิกภาพได้ และเป็นสาเหตุของการเกิดฟันผุและมีกลิ่นปาก ต่อมาการพูดหรือออกเสียงไม่ชัด
ซึ่งในข้อนี้ถือเป็นปัญหาของเด็กหลายๆคนที่เข้ารับการจัดฟัน แต่ก็ไม่ต้องกังวลไป เพราะการพูดไม่ชัดจะเกิดขึ้นในระยะแรกหลังจากการจัดฟันและข้อเสียอีกอย่างหนึ่งก็คือเด็กอาจจะไม่ได้รับประทานอาหารได้อย่างหลากหลายมากนัก เพราะจะต้องเลือกรับประทานอาหารที่มีความอ่อนนุ่ม เพื่อลดปัญหาของการเสียหายของเครื่องมือจัดฟันนั่นเอง ทั้งหมดนี้ก็ถือว่าเป็นข้อเสียของการจัดฟันในเด็กที่อาจจะกระทบต่อการใช้ชีวิตประจำวันของเด็กได้ แต่ก็สามารถแก้ไขได้ หากเด็กปฏิบัติตัวตามคำแนะนำของทันตแพทย์อย่างเคร่งครัด
